Getting a Pregnancy Test

Get Your Questions Answered

Think you might be pregnant? Taking a pregnancy test is a good first step. You can also check out some common pregnancy symptoms, or simply talk to us. You are not alone. Whether you need a free pregnancy test, or you need help making decisions, we are here for you.

When Should I Get a Pregnancy Test?

It’s best to wait until after you miss your period before taking a pregnancy test. Before that point, the test likely will be highly inaccurate. Keep in mind that even though women are not fertile 100% of the time, if you had sex, it is possible to get pregnant. It’s even possible if you’re on birth control.

If you don’t know when your period is supposed to start, you can wait about 17 days after you had sex. If you took a pregnancy test before your missed period, consider taking another pregnancy test once you hit that date.

Where Do I Get a Pregnancy Test?

You can purchase a pregnancy test at a grocery store, pharmacy, or convenience store. But you can also come to us for a free pregnancy test. Set up an appointment, or stop by when it’s convenient for you.

How Does a Pregnancy Test Work?

A pregnancy test is either a urine or a blood test. Tests look for a hormone your body makes after a baby implants in the uterus.

It only takes a few minutes to get a result. If you do your own pregnancy test at home, make sure to read the instructions thoroughly. Even a hint of a line on the test strip can be a positive pregnancy test.

If you have trouble figuring it out, come to us for a free pregnancy test. We read pregnancy tests every day, so we can help you determine if you are pregnant. And we can support you as you make decisions for what is best for you.

How Accurate Are Pregnancy Tests?

Pregnancy tests (as long as you follow the instructions) are 99% accurate. Factors that contribute to accuracy include: when you take the pregnancy test, when the baby implants in the uterus, and how concentrated your urine is.
